• Meet The Team - Melanie Hird

Hello there! First things first, what is your name and job role at NBP?

Melanie, External Sales.

How long have you been with the company for?

3 Years in August.

What has been your greatest achievement during your time at NBP?

Sounds silly, but #1 going up Scaffolding (3 storeys for reference). #2 Being able to guide and advise customers on rainwater fittings whilst being up said scaffold. Take away from this, I don’t like heights 😊 #3 Being top of the table for the quarter.

Who is your bestie at NBP?

A to the T (AKA Andrew Taylor) he literally knows everything about everything.

What do you like to get up to outside of work?

Eat, socialise, cuddle my fur baby and ski.

Do you have any hidden talents?

One arm press up (Ask the guys in the Leeds sales Office, I think this took them by surprise).

What was the first album you ever bought?

Probably OMC, How Bizzarre (thanks to Robbie Hunter-Paul constantly singing and playing this when he came over from New Zealand a few years ago 😉).

What is your favourite film?

Chalet Girl.

What is your Karaoke song of choice?

Eternal Flame, Bangles. I know him so well, Elaine Page and the other lady. (Commercial team will agree I have an awesome voice 😉).

Have you ever met any celebrities?

I started my working life at Bradford Bulls and as you can imagine there were many legends throughout my time. I was lucky enough to be at Bradford when they were on top form, playing (and winning some) finals. I am not going to name them all as I will definitely miss someone.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?

In 1998/1999 I took a coach of fans to The Stoop @ Twickenham and at this ground you change ends at half time (this is rare), whilst making the said journey from one end to the other I walked straight into a man, probably mid to late forties, literally chest planted him!! Boom!! Made my apologies and sped off.

Do you have any pets?

We have one Cane Corso (google translate - Italian Mastiff) called Como.

What is your favourite meal?

I love Chinese, but this is special occasion thing for some reason.

My go to favourite is Rumpus Burger (providing I order from the right branch seen as though they are 22 miles apart).

What is your dream holiday destination?

Has to be Montgenevre, little skiing village in France, but borders onto Italy so you only have to ski a little to get a proper Italian pizza.

If you could meet any famous figure living or dead, who would it be?

There isn’t really a specific, I suppose I have been quite fortunate throughout my life.

What is your life’s ambition?

I don’t really have a life’s ambition, probably always be me and never stop learning. I never do anything in the general order that it should be

  1. Engaged in 2004.
  2. Graduated at 30.
  3. Learnt to ski at 35/37 (probably a bit late and also cried and hated my first ski holiday).
  4. Chartered at 40.
  5. Married in 2023 (this was a long training process😉).
